Trees For Life has been establishing native forests for carbon sequestration since 2001. Our plantings are funded through the generous donations of Trees For Life, Carbon Neutral and Trees For Life Carbon supporters. Sites are monitored twice a year and the site reports updated so that donors can track the progress of the plantings.
Because we establish our plantings through direct seeding progress is always slow in the first three to five years as the seedlings establish strong root growth for future resilience. Despite being planted in rows our direct seeded sites develop into lovely natural looking forests which sequester carbon as they grow and significantly increase the biodiversity of the location.
The other benefit of direct seeded sites is that they are less vulnerable to weather in a single season. Seeds lay dormant until the conditions are right for germination.
