Sustainable House Day

Sustainable House Day is an annual event, organised by the Australia & New Zealand Solar Energy Society (ANZSES), on which energy and water efficient homes all over Australia are open for public inspection.

The event has been increasing in popularity over the six years since its inception and this year will be held over two days - Saturday September 13th and Sunday 14th. Planning and selection of houses is now underway and the organisers are seeking expressions of interest from volunteers to help run the event.

We hope to have around six Adelaide homes open on the Saturday and a different six on the Sunday. There will also be some homes open in Springton, Kangarilla & Aldinga. Homes will open from 11-00 am to 4-00 pm and tours are conducted throughout this period by the owner or the designer.

Houses are either purpose-designed and built for energy efficiency or are existing homes that have been retro-fitted to make them so.

The Benefits
Volunteers gain free entry to homes that are open on the day following or preceding the day they are on duty. They also receive a year's free membership of ANZSES.
