Direct Seeding

An excellent way to revegetate your property quickly and efficiently using locally sourced mixed seed in our direct seeding method.

A direct seeder pulled by a tractor or Ute sows seeds in single rows spaced around four metres apart. A variety of locally collected seed is used to create a planting which germinates and grows at different rates to ultimately create a natural looking planting.

An advantage of using direct seeding is that success is less dependent on rains in a single season. Seed remains dormant until conditions favour germination. Plants grown from seed are more robust than those planted as tubestock.

Direct Seeding

There are substantial benefits in using direct seeding for larger scale revegetation.

Consider direct seeding if:

• You have a large area to plant
• The land is safely accessible by tractor or ute
• The land is arable

Direct Seeding is predominantly undertaken in autumn, winter and spring, but expressions of interest can be made at any time.W atch the Direct Seeding DVD to see what's involved.

Trees For Life places prime importance on provenance of seed – which is collecting seed from remnant vegetation close to the site targeted for direct seeding and then using this seed for the project. Younger plants often provide good quality seed and being able to collect from direct seeded properties, and this helps takes the pressure off existing remnant vegetation.

Our team of Direct Seeding experts, with more than 20 years experience, will organise a site assessment, revegetation plan and quote. Want to know more?
