River Murray Forest - registration of interest

Calling for landholders interested in being involved in the 2nd year of this project

The Government aims to establish a River Murray Forest on private landholdings in the Rivery Murray corridor/northern Murray Mallee, comprising an estimated 2.5 million regionally native species

Last year landholders were sought within a broad corridor, approximately 20km either side of the River Murray from Morgan to the SA Victorian border. This year landholders are being sought within the same vicinity of the Murray, but from as far south as Wellington.

Through the River Murray Forest initiative, the State Government is aiming to implement revegetation with multiple benefits to the environment. These include reconnecting patches of valuable ecosystems, working to offset greenhouse emissions through carbon sequestration, promotion the establishment of sustainable new industries and helping to reduce topsoil erosion

Another focus is on planting that demonstrate best practice in water conservation methods during the establishment phase
