Two leaved Cape Tulip

Homeria miniata

One-leaved Cape Tulip (Homeria flaccida) and Two-leaved Cape Tulip (Homeria miniata) are poisonous weeds of pastures, open ground and open woodland. Homeria flaccida grows to about 60cm, while Homeria miniata grows to about 40cm. Both have tough, strap-like leaves.

Remove be hand pulling, if the ground is soft enough for the bulb to come out too, otherwise dig out with a trowel. With such a fine plant, spot spraying is impracticable, but poison can be wiped on from July/August to September.

They are native to South Africa.

Do not confuse with native lilies which also have strap-like leaves.
