Site details
Located at Birdwood in the Adelaide Hills, this privately owned site was direct seeded in 2007 with 2.8ha of the 9ha property being planted.
The site is directly adjacent the Cromer Conservation Park, and the local provenance, multi-storey revegetation will link the remnant vegetation of the park, with remnants on the property, providing increased natural habitat and corridors for the local wildlife.
The direct seeding was conducted in 2007 using the disc seeder, which is towed behind a four wheel drive and incorporates a chemical control for weeds. This machine is quite versatile and is mostly utilised in the moderate to high rainfall areas. Revegetation across the site has been highly successful, with excellent species diversity present. Additional direct seeding was undertaken in 2009 in an area which had not germinated well.

Site Update March 2011 :
This planting is now well established. An internal audit was undertaken in March 2011 and showed that the planting has already exceeded our target by 36%.
From the random sample count, it is estimated there are approximately 4,919 plants present including approximately 964 acacias and 304 eucalypts per hectare plus an estimated mid storey of 464 allocasuarinas per hectare.
There is very good native ground cover patches including, Aechena sp., Austrodanthonia sp., Austrostipa sp., Dianella sp. with patches of Phalaris weed grass. The landowners are managing broadleaf weeds and pine seedlings germinating from the neighbouring property.
In summary, there is very good plant numbers and representation of all species sown is good. There is evidence of recent new germination. Germination in the area re-sown on 07-May-10 is interesting in that it is predominantly Allocasuarina sp.. Numbers there appear to be acceptable although species diversity could be improved.
