DAY 2 - Friday, 22 June 2012 - Eden Hills (Field Visit)
Purpose:
This two day workshop is designed to train volunteers in the use, maintenance and safe operation of mechanical brushcutters. Session 1 is in the classroom and covers theory and practical aspects of safe brushcutter operation and maintenance, while Session 2 starts in the field, putting into practice the techniques learnt on day one, then back to the classroom to finish off. This workshop is based on the module Certificate 1 in Conservation and Land Management – Operate Basic Machinery & Equipment.

Day 1: 9:30am – 4:30pm in the classroom

Session 1
· Occupational Health Safety & Welfare
· Standard operating procedures
· Hazards audits
· Components of the brushcutter and maintenance
· Use of the brushcutter
Session 2
· Review of machine maintenance and care
· Practical brushcutting on BFL site
· Written assessment (open book)
