Purpose:
This is an opportunity to put into practice some of the techniques you learnt in Plant Identification - Theory (see above) or just generally increase your field knowledge about indigenous plants and exotic weeds. After a quick recap in the classroom of some of the basic principles of plant identification we will spend most of the time in the field. The session is an informal exploration of the species that occur on a specific site. Back in the classroom at the end of the day we will look at the features of some of the plants we saw in the field and compile a weed herbarium.
Course Content:
• Refresher on basic plant identification techniques
• In-situ observations of indigenous plants and exotic weeds to note the characteristics used for identification
• Learn names and families for common plants on a specific site
• Use Plant ID books to identify species seen in the field
• Collect weed specimens and create a weed herbarium
Format 9am - 3.30pm
Start in the classroom, field trip then finish in the classroom.
