Purpose:

Identifying grasses can be very daunting for most bush carers: which ones are native, which ones are weeds? This introductory workshop will help participants to identify some of the common groups of grasses, both native and exotic and recognise some of the basic features of grasses that facilitate identification. We will also discuss some aspects of grass biology and management issues you may encounter on sites.

Format:

9:30am – 4:00pm with the morning in the classroom and a field trip in the afternoon

Course Content:

· Basic grass botany, floral structure etc

· How to use botanical ID books

· Some of the major groups (genera) of indigenous and exotic grasses

· Grass biology & management issues on Bush For Life sites
