Native Grasses – Basic Identification and Management

Purpose:
Grasses can be very daunting for most bushcarers, which ones are native, which ones are weeds? This introductory course will help participants to identify some of the common groups of grasses, both native and exotic and recognise some of the basic features of grasses that enable identification. We will also discuss some aspects of grass biology and management issues you may encounter on sites.

Course Content:
• Basic grass botany, floral structure etc
• How to use botanical id books
• Some of the major groups (genera) of indigenous and exotic grasses
• Grass biology & management issues on Bush For Life sites

Format 9am - 3.30pm in the classroom with a short field trip
